Author Biography
Short Bio
J.S. d’Raven is a Pacific Northwest–based author of suspense, mystery, and speculative fiction. His stories explore existential questions, unexplained phenomena, and the stranger edges of human behavior, balancing unease with flashes of warmth. He writes for readers who like their endings sharp—and their stories difficult to shake.
Medium Bio
J.S. d’Raven is a Pacific Northwest–based author of suspense, mystery, and speculative fiction. Drawn to existential questions, unexplained phenomena, and the stranger edges of human behavior, he writes stories in which the familiar rarely remains familiar for long.
His debut, The Envoy’s Interlude, introduced a story world that spans generations and hides in plain sight—one he intends to revisit in future works. After an extended hiatus from fiction, d’Raven is returning with new stories, including the forthcoming holiday romance Snow Tracks.
The landscapes, weather, small towns, folklore, and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest frequently influence his work. His interests include obscure phenomena, difficult questions, and the occasional walk along the shores of an existential crisis.
Long Bio
J.S. d’Raven is a Pacific Northwest–based author whose work moves through suspense, mystery, speculative fiction, science fiction, horror, and the occasional romance. Across genres, his stories share an interest in secrets, existential questions, unexplained phenomena, and the decisions people make when the familiar begins to unravel.
D’Raven has been inventing stories for as long as he can remember. His childhood was marked by notebooks left throughout the house, filled with aliens, distant worlds, and sprawling family dramas that had a habit of transforming into science-fiction adventures. Most of those notebooks disappeared over the years, but the impulse behind them remained.
His debut short story, The Envoy’s Interlude, follows a chance encounter aboard a train to Seattle and opens the door to a larger universe—one that stretches across different lives, characters, and generations. D’Raven intends to return to that world through additional standalone stories, with the possibility of eventually bringing them together in an anthology.
After an extended hiatus, he is returning to fiction with a renewed interest in atmosphere, prose, and stories that resist easy answers. His forthcoming work includes Snow Tracks, a working title for an LGBTQ+ holiday romance set in Leavenworth, Washington.
The Pacific Northwest plays an important role in d’Raven’s imagination. Its changing weather, forests, mountains, isolated roads, small towns, layered history, and deep associations with folklore and unexplained phenomena provide a natural setting for stories balanced between beauty and unease.
Whether writing speculative suspense or venturing into romance, d’Raven wants readers to leave a story comfortably disturbed—still considering its questions and consequences days later. His interests include obscure phenomena, difficult questions, and the occasional walk along the shores of an existential crisis.

Short Synopsis
A chance encounter with a charming stranger leads Colin to one of the most fascinating conversations of his life. Michael is no ordinary passenger on Colin’s train to Seattle, and as their discussion turns toward philosophy, impossible predictions, and fractured memories, Colin begins to suspect that his companion may be something more than human.
Long Synopsis
Colin DeMuth boards a westbound train wanting nothing more than solitude, the frozen Midwest sliding past his window, and the promise of a clean start waiting for him in Seattle.
He gets Michael instead.
What begins as a conversation about philosophy and the meaning of life becomes a wager, and before Colin can retrace how they arrived there, the painting he has been carrying is on the table. It is the kind of reckless escalation that can happen when a charming stranger makes someone forget where the conversation began.
Michael is unhurried and strangely certain, as though time has already shown him its hand. He anticipates a mechanical failure, a woman choking in a diner, and the small calamities no one else sees coming. He does not appear to be guessing. He is watching, studying, and calculating.
As impossible predictions become reality and buried memories begin to surface, Colin must decide whether Michael is a gifted observer, a dangerous manipulator, or something that cannot be explained so easily.
Their encounter is brief. Its consequences may reach much further.
